Reflection on Online Teaching

Among all of the requirements in Educational Technology II, online teaching is the most tiring, so far. The method used in classroom teaching is far different from online teaching because there are activities that cannot be adopted online. Aside from that, as the teacher, I must be the one to communicate with my tutee on his schedule.

Another issue to deal with online teaching is that in application- which can be a form of an activity in the classroom setting, must be through verbal explanation in online. Moreover, both of the tutee and the tutor must have a fast internet connection for the lesson to run smoothly. Like the screen casting video, it is essential to be in the quite environment so that the teaching- learning process will not be disturbed with the unnecessary noises.

My approach has been to keep things simple. I only used word strips and pictures since I have a grade IV tutee. Though there are many cool tools that can be used in online teaching but it is always best to go and use the most accessible tools. I am vigilant about identifying of what is necessary in achieving the learning goals.

With this online teaching, I have learned to reach out of others to share ideas and suggestions. It was indeed an experience. It was challenging to find a tutee that can be taught online. I feel fortunate that I have experienced teaching online and in the classroom. The online teaching experience has provided me knowledge that I haven’t acquired in the classroom setting. Moreover, I am amazed of the fact that through the use of technologies, teachers can now provide opportunities outside the classroom setting for both students and pupils to engage in learning.
